FAQ

  • The gallery aims to amplify mental health experiences through art.

We showcase artists who have lived and living experiences of mental health challenges and recovery.

  • This is the 3rd year of the gallery.

In the 1st year, we had an online gallery with over 200 artists and 2400 visitors in the first week.

In the 2nd year, we had an in-person gallery and showcase event at the Royal Children’s Hospital, featuring 20 artists.

  • This year, we are making an Art Book that will feature 50-100 artists.

Each artist will share one artwork and their mental health journey.

The book will be shared widely with organisations and communities to raise awareness and amplify lived and living experiences.

  • If you are selected for this year's Gallery, you may be invited to participate in one or all of these options:

Art Book: Your art and story may be displayed in our book.

Event Attendance: You may be invited to attend the book launch.

Event Performance: You may be invited to speak or perform at the book launch.

  • All artists will be paid for their expertise and receive a copy of the art book.

If you are selected for the Art Book, you will be remunerated $150 for your expertise and the single use of your artwork in the book.

If you are selected for the Event Performance, you will be remunerated an additional $100 for your expertise and attendance.

  • The Gallery is created and run by Melbourne Children's Campus - a partnership of the Royal Children's Hospital, the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, and the Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne.

  • No. This book will not be sold. The book will be shared for free across Melbourne Children’s Campus and with organisations and communities to raise awareness and amplify lived and living experiences of mental health challenges and recovery.

  • If an artist is selected for the book and shares their artist name, they may be contacted by someone who is interested in their work. Any resulting artwork or interest is up to the artist and will not be managed by the Gallery.

  • For artist and audience safety, there will be a small review process. A group of people with lived experience and clinicians will review all artworks before they are published. This will only be to add trigger warnings and ensure that artworks do not contain discriminatory or unhelpful advice. We will contact the artist directly for all communications.

  • Our decision-making processes will be informed by these principles:

We will prioritise artists who demonstrate an alignment of values and goals with the Children’s Mental Health Gallery, including raising awareness, bringing hope, and purposefully shedding light on lived experiences.

We will prioritise artists with diverse identities and experiences, with a balance of direct personal lived experience and carer lived experience.

We will consider the cohort as a whole - aiming for a diverse group of artists who both share experiences but also bring different perspectives.

  • The artist is the owner of all copyrights, including Intellectual Property rights, to the content they submit to the Art Book. The Gallery does not own or claim rights to any of the work we publish.

Artists are free to publish their work in any other venue they choose, despite it being featured in our book..

For further information please refer to the Copyright Act 1968 (Commonwealth).
